Ther6 was indeed a most beautiful marriage at the Baptist Church at Middleburg, N. C, last Wednesday, January 15th. 1902, at high noon, when Miss Sallie Josephine, the lovely daughter of Mr. T. M. Walkies, wag married to Mr. R. L. W, Watkins, both of Manson, N. C. The solemn and beautiful ceremony was conducted by Rev, W. R. Cullom, of Wake Forest. The Church was beautifully decorated under the skillful management of Mrs. W. L. Womble, of Raleigh, N. C. There were masses of delicate ferns relieved by the brightness of pink carnations, and lovely white roman hyacinths. While graceful festoons of evergreen were suspended from the walls. The altar was beautifully deco rated with carnations and hyacinths, and ablaze with many caudles while just above the altar was a candelabrum, all rendering a novel and beautiful scene which was very effective. At the appointed hour, the bridal couple in a handsome carriage drawn by white horses wore diiven to the en trance, and entered the Church, head ed by the ashers, Mr. W. H. Kimball, of Middleburg, and Mr. Raymond Watkins, of Henderson. Then came the attendants, Miss Sue H. Watkins with Mr. Clyde Watkins, Miss Ava , Watkins with Mr. Lewis Brown and Miss Winnie Flem.rg with Mr. J. Alvis Turner. Then the damo of honor, with the bride who was met at the altar by the bridegroom, with his best man, Mr. C. Watkins. The bridegroom was at tired in a handsome suit of black, and the bride was dressed in aa equisite tailor-made suit of castor broad-cloth, with white trimmings and a lovely hat to match. She carried a large and exceedingly beautiful boqnet of Bride's roses aud maiden hair ferns, tied with white ribbon. The Dame of honor carried piuk carnations tied with pink ribbon and the bride's maids ferns with with white ribbon. The sweet strains of Mendelshon's ma fch, "Oh promise me" was softly and exrpiisately played during the ceremony, by the pitted Miss J-ieua Watkins, of Middleburg. The church was ciowded with people showing the many friends of the popu lar couple. Immediately after the marriage the bridal party went to the residence of the bride's father, Mr. T. M. Watkins, where an elegant dinner was servred. The many handsome and useful pres ents which were received from this State and others attests the wide popularity of both bride aud groom. Quit- noticeable among the presents, was a water set, of cut glass of unusual brilliancy. We are delighted to kndw that they will remain in our midst, for no one kuo vs the bride but to love her. It is rare to find so much grace, beauty and intellect in one person, and all enjoy the genial company of our highly es teemed, and popular merchaut, the bridegroom. We wish this happy couple a pleas ant voyage, through life. Mr. and Mrs. Watkins are pleased to welcome their many friends at the home of Mr. M. V. Fleming, where they are now boarding.
